Jason Mitchell’s Story

My name is Jason Mitchell and I’m 43 years old. I recently made the biggest mistake of my life and got arrested for the first time. I was arrested for disorderly conduct. I spent 6 months in jail. As a result, I lost everything and found myself homeless for the first time in my life.

I am not originally from Jacksonville so I asked around where I could find resources that help the homeless. I was directed to a place called Sulzbacher. I got a bus pass and headed that way. On the way, the bus passed a place called Trinity Rescue Mission. There was a persistent loud voice in my head that I believe was God insisting that I get off the bus and check this place out. I did and it ended up being the best thing I have ever done.

I completed their 90-day Lifeline program and was about to go to work for a temp agency when my wife passed away. The staff at Trinity was graceful and gave me time to mourn.

During this time, Trinity formed a partnership with Operation New Hope. I did a bit of research and learned that Operation New Hope would be an excellent opportunity for me. I approached the staff at Trinity and told them I was very interested. I filled out an application and was accepted.

While attending Operation New Hope, I learned that they offer several types of skilled trade classes. When I was in the military, I worked in logistics. I spent a great amount of time operating a forklift and enjoyed it. Operation New Hope provided an opportunity for me to get certified and I took it. As a result, I have been able to obtain full-time employment starting at 19.50/hr.

Through the Trinity Works program, I have been able to connect to stable employment, have reliable transportation to and from work, and begin to save money. My future looks very bright now and it is all thanks to the staff at Trinity Rescue Mission. The staff also helped me obtain my ID, and SSC, as well as my birth certificate. Without them and the Lifeline Program, I would hate to think where my life would be and the direction it would be headed in. Trinity Rescue Mission has truly saved my life and has brought me much closer to God. I will forever be grateful and thankful for the Trinity Rescue Mission, their programs, partners, and staff.
